After seeing the promotion aspirations disappear in the last few weeks, the Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has said that he wants to make a few signings in the January transfer window that will hopefully make an impact in the promotion push. After starting the season strongly, results have not been coming in the last two months. The club has managed just four league victories in two months of football, which has resulted in the team dropping to the ninth position in the table. The play-off position is still within the reach of the club, but results need to improve quickly in order to do so.
The manager Poyet has said that bringing in a few players during January in the hope of making an impact is one of the plans under consideration. The transfer window recently opened and Poyet has the opportunity to spend some money. Poyet has said that one of the key reasons for Reading getting promoted into the Premier league last season was the arrival of striker Jason Roberts during January. He is targeting such a signing for himself this time around. The Uruguayan has recalled how Reading’s fortunes changed dramatically after the arrival of Jason Roberts in January.
“Reading was one team before Roberts and a totally different team after Roberts. If you can bring in that kind of player then you have a great chance. For us at the moment it is not possible, but I am trying to convince the chairman. In the five or six games we didn’t win at the Amex – if one of those players had been here, I’m sure we would be big contenders for the top two,” said the former Tottenham assistant manager. Brighton are just three points below the play-offs position and 12 points behind the automatic promotion spots.
