The Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has said that he is extremely satisfied with the defensive performance of the team in the last few matches. Even though Brighton have been an extremely poor run in the last few matches, they have been able to keep the defence tight. As a result, they have claimed three draws from the last five matches. Even though it has to be said that they have not won any match in the month of October, the fact that they have conceded just four goals in these five matches mean that they’re still in with a chance of fighting for a promotion spot according to the manager.
Gus Poyet’s side recently managed a 1-1 draw with Blackpool, which has not ended the winless streak, but has at least stopped the two consecutive defeats they have suffered in the last two matches. Further, they have also gone three matches without scoring a goal and the goal against Blackpool was extremely crucial in this regard. Grandin scored the goal for Brighton and Hove Albion a few minutes after they had gone down to a goal from Barnes. Even though they have struggled to score, have not conceded more than two goals in a game so far.
That is different class, top, top defending. Remember as well we don’t go into games to defend. If we were a defensive team then only conceding once would be our challenge but it’s not our challenge. Our main thing is to go and score goals and produce and control the game, things that we didn’t do on Saturday. We were still good enough to get a result because of the experience,” said the Brighton manager after the match. The club will be having a crucial match against Leeds United next weekend.
