POYET UNSURE

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has revealed that he is considering his position at the club after they suffered a defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace in the play-off. Brighton managed to draw the first leg at Crystal Palace 0-0, thus giving them a huge advantage in the second leg due to the home support. However, they did not manage to capitalise on this advantage, as they were defeated 2-0 on the night. This set them out of the play-offs and they have to look forward to another season in the Championship before thinking about promotion.

Poyet has revealed that he will be holding talks with chairman Tony Bloom regarding the financial support that he will be receiving if he stays on as the manager. Even though Poyet still has three more years left on his contract, he has been attracting attention from several clubs including Premier league clubs. Fulham are thought to be considering the position of Martin Jol and they have made Poyet as one of their primary candidates to replace the Dutchman. Poyet refused to comment on his future by saying that he will do so only after holding talks with the chairman.

Brighton finished as one of the inform teams in the division to qualify for the play-offs.

“I have always said that all the time we keep improving I am going to be at this football club and the day we hit the roof, I am not. I am going to ask if we have hit the roof and to know that, I need answers. Financial fair play comes next year and it is going to hurt everybody, including us. We have got a few problems. To go up we need to get better. I will be asking for assurances,” said Poyet.
